HOW TO PLAY VOLLEYBALL

Are you looking to play volleyball but don’t quite know the rules of the game? Well, you’ve come to the right place! In this blog post, we’ll talk about everything you need to know! From the volleyball court dimensions to the volleyball net height, and all the other general rules and regulations of volleyball.

Basic Volleyball Rules and Regulations
The first thing you need to learn in order to play volleyball is all the different rules and regulations of volleyball.

Here’s a simple break down of all the most important rules of volleyball:

There is a maximum of 6 players on one side of the court at all times. There should be three players situated in the front row to the net and three players in the back row.
The maximum number of touches per side is 3. That means you can only hit the ball (or contact it) at most 3 times before having to hit the ball over the net to the other side.
The objective of the game is to send the volleyball over to the opposing team’s side of the net so that the other team cannot send the ball back to your own side.
Every game begins with a server who will serve the ball over from one side of the court to the other.
When the receiving team wins a volley that team gains the right to serve on the next play and all players on the receiving team will rotate clockwise one position.
A point is earned whenever the opposing team cannot return the ball to the other side within 3 hits or when they allow the ball to drop to the ground. This is one way to win a volley.
When a team “kills”/hits the ball onto the opponent’s court, then a point is rewarded to that team. This is another way to win a volley.
The point is only valid if the ball touches the ground within the painted boundaries. If the ball hits the boundary lines, then a point is rewarded to your team. If the ball hits the outside of the lines, then your opponents will score a point.
How to win a volleyball game?
Typical games are played until 21 points or 25 points. To win a game, a team needs to win by 2 points.
Therefore a game can continue past the maximum of 21 points or 25 points. For example, if you’re playing up to 21 points then a game can go up to 26-24 points. This can happen if both teams are at 20 points, and each team scores a point after the other team scores a point up until 24 points.
The team that win best two out of three wins the match. Sometimes games are played best three out of five.

Volleyball violations
If a player is caught violating any of the following volleyball rules below, then the opposing team will earn a point.

If a player steps on or across the serving line while serving the ball
Players cannot contact the ball illegally. Some illegal contacts include: double touching, lifting, carrying, and throwing
A failed attempt to serve the ball to the other side of the court results in a point for the opposing team
Whenever the ball is in play, any body contact with the net is illegal
It is illegal when a back row player blocks. This is considered an illegal block when the back row player is near the net and has part of his/her body above the top of the net while the opponent is attacking.
If a back row player attacks on the front row (in front of the “3-meter”/”10-foot” line), then this is a violation.
If any player attacks a ball coming from the opponent’s side while the ball is still on the opponent’s side, then this is illegal. The player can only attack the ball if the ball passes the vertical plane of the net.
It is illegal to block a ball if your opponent has not used their three hits and it’s possible for them to make a play still.
